Shuswap Chapter Overview

The Shuswap Chapter of BCHBC is centered in Salmon Arm, drawing members from many miles around.  We focus on having fun with our horses but take our responsibilities as partners in the larger organization seriously – practicing environmental stewardship and safety for horses and riders, and pursuing trail building and maintenance opportunities.

When we’re not riding in one of our favourite places, which include the Skimikin Lake Trails, the Larch Hills Nordic Trails or the South Canoe Trails, we’ll be planning or participating in trail improvement projects, fundraising events, and educational clinics such as wilderness survival, saddle fitting, horsemanship and one time even a yoga workshop!

We hold dinner meetings on the 3rd Wednesday of each month and frequently have a guest speaker on varied topics which have been suggested by our members.

Our Chapter was formed in 2000 by a group of friends with the goal of finding and improving trails in our area.  Our successes include collaborating on a huge effort to build the equestrian camp at Skimikin Lake, and formalizing a Partnership Agreement with Recreation Sites and Trails for the Skimikin trail maintenance and trail development projects.  We also work closely with the Shuswap Trail Alliance for improvements and expansion of the South Canoe trails and a variety of equestrian stakeholder projects.
