John Gardner Volunteer of the Year Award
John Gardner was a truly committed member of the Back Country Horsemen of BC and one of the most open and willing individuals we had the privilege of knowing. He was always ready to help others and was talented in so many ways.
This award was created in John’s memory to recognize and honour his willingness to help others in the equine community. It also commemorates the many hours he volunteered, along with the use of his personal equipment and skills, on numerous projects benefiting BCHBC and its members.
The John Gardner Trail, located off the Tulameen Forest Service Road, takes riders from the valley floor to the alpine areas of Illal Mountain and Jim Kelly Peak.
About the Award
The Volunteer of the Year Award is presented to an individual who has made a special or significant contribution to BCHBC. It recognizes a nominee whose commitment has contributed to the growth and development of the organization.
Nomination Criteria
Nominees will be considered based on the following:
- Their investment of time and length of service to BCHBC.
- Their commitment to BCHBC.
- The impact of their efforts.
- Whether they exemplify the spirit of BCHBC.
- Whether they demonstrate leadership and initiative.
- Whether they serve as a positive role model.
- Whether they inspire others to volunteer.
An individual must be nominated by at least two BCHBC members or by a BCHBC chapter.
