The equestrian camping area at Skimikin was built in the late 1990s by the BCHBC Shuswap Chapter. Through a partnership agreement with Recreation Sites and Trails BC, the chapter maintains all non-motorized trails and part of the shared-use trail network.
In 2023–2024, the chapter used an $86,000 grant from the Government of BC Destination Development Fund and Horse Council BC to build a new 3.7 km purpose-built non-motorized trail.
