Roots of the BCHBC Trail Rider Education Program

Program Roots

In 2009, the Certified Horsemanship Association (CHA), published their Trail Guide Manual.  The intent of the manual was to provide a comprehensive tool for trail riding, camping and packing with horses or mules, and to provide certification for completion of the associated skills.

Jim McRae, founding member of the Back Country Horsemen of BC, along with BCHBC members Jack Breaks and Rose Schoeder authored the Trail Guide Manual and, as a result, BCHBC received permission to use the content as a baseline for the Trail Rider Education Program.

It should be noted that neither BCHBC, nor the authors, received financial renumeration for the publication.  However, our 4-Level Trail Rider Education Program allows BCHBC to raise awareness of the manual.

BCHBC is an affiliate member of the CHA.

Local chapters offer a wide range of opportunities, including trail riding with their four-legged trail mate, horse camping, educational events, and social gatherings. No matter where you live in BC, there’s likely a BCHBC chapter ready to welcome you.

Don’t miss our annual Provincial Rendezvous, where members from across the province come together for an exciting weekend of workshops, learning, enjoying trails on their equine partner, and lively social events. Join BCHBC and become part of a community that celebrates horses, trail riding, and adventure.
